5 Examples of Graphic Design Trends to Inspire your Presentation Design in 2023

Did you know that fashion isn’t the only sector of the design industry to use trend forecasts?  You may be forgiven for not knowing that the world of graphic design also releases a prediction of trends and you may be surprised to learn that this has a huge impact on all aspects of the art industry, especially in the field of presentation design.

These annual predictions, released towards the end of each year, influence the design approaches of all the top creative agencies, whom many companies hire in order to keep their corporate identity and brand guidelines fresh, impactful, and relevant. This trickle-down effect is one of the main factors for us seeing some distinct similarities in corporate design styles; including colour schemes, fonts, and supporting assets.

Although these comparable branding styles are generally quite industry-specific, a trawl back through the most recent corporate brands to be refreshed will instantly demonstrate the point.

Below are five examples of graphic design trends to inspire your presentation design in 2023.

1. Innovative Data Visualisation

2. Condensed Fonts/Typography

3. Celestial Approach

4. Aura Gradients

1. Innovative Data Visualisation

Using standard chart styles are uninspiring for the viewer and can trigger the phrase “Death by PowerPoint”.  Professional presentation designers will break the mould by creating eye-catching infographics to visually engage the audience.

2. Condensed Fonts/Typography

One of the biggest challenges in Presentation Design is utilising the amount of space on a content-heavy slide. Condensed fonts offer a bold, impactful choice to grab the reader’s attention. Inherently, condensed fonts appear to look quite masculine, but when used properly, they can make a great addition as a headline or display font, adding impact to a presentation.

3. Celestial Approach

Juxtaposed against the serious nature of most presentations, the celestial trend offers a gentle, reserved approach to design. Employing imagery that is associated with Tarot cards, such as motifs from nature and the solar system, combined with a calming colour palette, moderate line strokes, and use of luxury serif fonts, will provide the audience with a more comfortable presentation experience.

4. Aura Gradients

Over the years, gradients have consistently made trend lists. They make great presentation design assets due to their versatility and fun nature. Aura Gradients are a reinterpretation of the linear gradient and are capable of portraying either subtle or vibrant circular colouring. This new offering will provide endless possibilities for Presentation Designers in 2023.

5. Pantone is King

Pantone’s ‘Colour of the Year’ has a massive impact on the coming year’s most popular colour palettes.  The 2023 colour, named Viva Magenta, has a vibrant and energetic tone. The Pantone website states that “It is a new animated red that revels in pure joy, encouraging experimentation and self-expression without restraint.”

These are my five top tips for fresh, lively and impactful presentation design for 2023.  The boldness of Viva Magenta, being explored as an aura gradient, is something I shall be experimenting with in my own slides, in the very near future!
